R.I.P. Avril Lavigne's career

I was a fan of Avril when she first came out. Her first album, Let Go, was filled with angsty songs that I could really relate to as a teenager that was bullied and ostracized for being different. I was pretty heavy into pop-punk then, and I liked her because she was different than the other female singers out there. She wore what she wanted, said what she wanted, wrote her own songs, and was different. Her second CD wasn't too bad, either, but it didn't hold the magic that her first one did to me. I loved "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi", "Losing Grip", and the other songs on the first CD.

And then The Best Damn Thing came out. When I heard "Girlfriend" and then saw the video, I cringed. This was not the Avril I knew. She was shaking her ass, dressed scantily-clad, and acting every bit the persona she said she'd never be. Long story short, when I heard the first single from her latest CD, I thought maybe she was going back to her roots. Yeah, not so much. Embedded in this post is the video for her latest song "Hello Kitty." It was originally uploaded to her official YouTube channel, then quickly removed due to the backlash she received.

Take a look at it and give me your thoughts. All I can say is what the fuck happened to her.

She's married to the lead singer of Nickelback, I know she can do better than this.

Edit: She looks dead behind the eyes. Like she'd rather be anywhere but there.

Oh, it gets better. She and Chad wrote that together. That's not even a song! "Hello, kitty, kitty, you're so pretty, kitty?" Like how does that constitute as song lyrics? They've gotten so much backlash from the video that it was quickly pulled. This is the definition of selling out, and I have no idea why she did it. She is better than this; she's done better than this. I don't know what she's trying to do, if she's trying to be like Gaga or Miley or what, but that gimmick has a shelf life.

I'm disgusted.

I'm concerned for her well being. And also for the Kawaii culture if this is its future in the West. Dear LORD.

I'm obviously NOT an expert, but I do know a thing or two about kawaii, and this is not how you do it. It's been way too Westernized. I don't wanna see girls bastardizing it.

This is /not/ the Avril I remember!!

I agree; she doesn't even look like she's enjoying this.
The beat and such is catchy(to me) but the video itself and her just...no. It doesn't feel right.

Personally; as someone who is into like Lolita and such; people are REALLY starting to get from the hipster motion and into the kawaii it seems. And I don't have a problem with that except for the fact that it actually offends people...


I want the rebel Avril back who would sing about how a woman took advantage of a good man and then lost it and she got him >->

I miss the Avril of the first two albums. When she was a punky lil rebel and took no shit from anyone. I admired that about her.
